As a part of my server upgrade, I brought a new router. The first (a linksys) installed perfectly first time and all looked good but would drop every couple of hours the wireless connection to several of my machines, so back it went. In its place I got a Belkin, this is much more stable but has some bizarre choice for routing options…

I have it forwarding HTTP requests to my new web-server, so the internet just uses http://rattie.demon.co.uk and get my linux box. For some reason however it doesn’t do that for internal machines. I.e. I can’t see this website sitting here in my house! Because the website has the sitename in it, even accessing via IP doesn’t work, so using my blog has been tricky. However I’ve solved it by shutting down the routers DNS and DHCP and using dnsmasq on the linux box. So finally I can really use this blog properly again…

With a bit of luck this means I should update it a bit more, of course whether I have anything worth saying, is another matter…
